AUTISM: THE MUSICAL AND MORE!
12:30 p.m. – Speaker and Film
with George J. Yard, M.Ed., Ph.D.
Associate Professor Emeritus – University of Missouri-St Louis
What is autism? Who is autistic? What are the idiosyncrasies and potentials for autistic children?
Do you “outgrow” autism? What happens to older autistic people? How do families, educators, and communities understand, live with and accommodate these special individuals? What services are available to support families and schools?
Dr. George Yard will share insights and resources on Autism and its spectrum of manifestations in this increasingly visible “special population”.
With academic and professional experience in education and teaching and administration, as well as research, publishing and consulting over the course of his career, Dr. Yard will guide us through the basics of Autism. His involvement with families and institutions coping with issues of management will aide us all in developing sensitivity and understanding of individual differences in human populations.
This presentation is appropriate for social science students, teachers, service providers and the general public. NWC Professor Helen Jones will introduce the program and speaker.
