Award winning filmmaker, Marcela Gaviria has produced 15 documentaries for PBS Frontline, including five films on post war Iraq and two on the current war in Afghanistan. The latest, Obama’s War, aired October 13.   On Tuesday, November 17, she will speak at Pandora’s Box and discuss and show segments of her films.

A native of Colombia, she graduated from Brown University and field-produced documentaries from Latin America for PBS and the BBC before joining RAINmedia in New York.  Other films in clude The Madoff Affiar, Medicating Kids, The Storm (About Katrina and New Orleans for which she won an Emmy in 2005), and the four-hour series Drug Wars.  Librarian Cindy Belmar will introduce the speaker.

The Houston Job Market: Scary or for the Savvy?

We read about the layoffs yet are told that Houston’s job market is better than most other city’s.  What prospects do our students have?  What jobs are out there?  Pandora’s Box presents Lilly Chu of the Houston Better Business Bureau to discuss “Life after School” on Wednesday, September 30.  The director of programming for the HBBB will appraise students of the job landscape and give them a practical look at the prospects and possibilities facing them after graduation. Criminal Justice professor Rudy Hardy will introduce the speaker.
