Film: Food, Inc.
Tuesday, March 2: Part I
Wednesday, March 3: Part II
12:30 pm at Katy Campus, Cyber Lounge
■ How can the price of meat remain so low
year after year?
■ What influence do corporate food producers
have on the Food and Drug Administration?
■ What percentage of food inspectors do we
have today compared to 1960?
The film illustrates America’s industrialized food system and its effect on our environment, health, economy, and worker’s rights. For example, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that 76 million Americans are sickened, 325,000 are hospitalized, and 5,000 die each year from foodborne illnesses. Government Professor Gary LeBlanc will introduce the film and lead discussions after both sessions.

Pandora’s Box visits Little Rock Central: 50 Years Later
Wednesday February 24, 12:30pm Katy Campus Cyber Lounge
On Wednesday, February 24, in celebration of Black history month, Pandora’s Box presents the documentary Little Rock Central: 50 Years Later. Infamous for its resistance to desegregation in the 60s, the high school today compared
to what it was yesterday reveals much about the legacy of the civil rights movement: what it accomplished and the barriers that remain. Government Professor Rosalyn Crain will introduce the film and lead discussions afterwards.
