We read about the layoffs yet are told that Houston’s job market is better than most other city’s. What prospects do our students have? What jobs are out there? Pandora’s Box presents Lilly Chu of the Houston Better Business Bureau to discuss “Life after School” on Wednesday, September 30. The director of programming for the HBBB will appraise students of the job landscape and give them a practical look at the prospects and possibilities facing them after graduation. Criminal Justice professor Rudy Hardy will introduce the speaker.

Pandora’s Box Counts National Debt: Ten Trillion!

Remember, in 2000, presidential candidates George W. Bush and Al Gore debated what to do with the national surplus!?! What happened? On Tuesday, September 29, Pandora’s Box presents the documentary Ten Trillion and Counting, which traces the politics behind the staggering U.S. national debt and investigates a looming crisis that makes our current national financial situation pale in comparison. Associate Dean Mark Tiller will introduce the film and lead discussions afterwards.

Film: Pray the devil back to hell

What happens to families during civil wars? Can women do anything to stop the carnage? On Wednesday, September 23, Pandora’s Box Continuing education class presents a film about what finally ended the civil war in Liberia: Pray the Devil Back to Hell. The film chronicles how thousands of Liberian women, both Muslim and Christian, came together to end a bloody, decade long civil war and brought peace to their shattered country. Sociology professor Michael Fonge will introduce the film and lead discussions afterwards.
