Film: New Year Baby

On Wednesday Pandora’s Box Continuing Education class looks at the film New Year Baby.  This film explores a daughter’s discovery of her parents nightmare flight from the Khmer Rouge genocide in Cambodia, their immigration to Dallas, and the real story about her siblings.  Prof. Bryant Evans will introduce the film and lead the discussion afterward.

Film: Where in the World is Osama Bin Laden?

On Tuesday, Pandora’s Box Continuing Education class presents the documentary “Where in the World is Osama Bin Laden?”

The producer of Super Size Me, while risking life and limb in the Middle East and Afghanistan to uncover the truth and whereabouts of the world’s most wanted man, discovers something larger.  Prof. Tom Haymes will introduce the film and lead the discussion afterward.

Could your ID be stolen?  How?  Is this preventable?  What are the ramifications?  On Wednesday, March 4, Pandora’s Box presents Joe Stiles, a Katy businessman and motivational speaker who will talk about ID theft. Working from a personal experience and its effects on his life and on his credit scores, he will outline the dos and don’ts of protecting one’s identity. Community Outreach Coordinator Kim Montgomery will introduce the speaker.

A Fist Full of Dollars: Kiva Loans

How many times have you wasted $50? $25? $10? Don’t ask! On Tuesday, March 3, Pandora’s Box presents two short films on Kiva Loans: A fist full of Dollars. One short video follows the path of a $25 loan from London, England to Preak Tamao village, Cambodia. The second short video follows the path of a loan to Uganda.

Kiva.org is a website that allows internet users to lend money to people that need it in developing countries, with the aim of empowering them to lift themselves out of poverty. Economics professor Manuel Reyes will introduce the film and lead discussions afterwards.
