Film: Big Time Losers (60 min)

On Wednesday, October 15, the class session will show the documentary Big Time Losers (60 min), which looks at some of the grim realities behind the cheers and heroics of big time college sports programs.  Told through the stories of six athletes, who all had dreamed of being stars and going professional, the film shows the price colleges and athletes pay when sports become big business.  Troy Jefferson, Student Life Coordinator, will lead discussions after the film. This open enrollment continuing education class meets at 12:30pm in the Katy Campus Cyber Lounge.

Pandora’s Box Film and Speaker Series will feature professional comedian, corporate trainer, and personal safety expert Austin Davis.  In his discussion, “Laughing in the Face of Danger,” he will address common safety concerns, such as theft, scams, sexual predators, and stalkers and tell students how to deal effectively with them and gain confidence in themselves  Criminal justice professor Rudi Hardy will present Davis and lead discussions afterwards.

Film: The Power of Forgiveness

This documentary, The Power of Forgiveness (60 min), explores recent research into the psychological and physical effects of forgiveness on individuals and within relationships under a wide variety of conditions ranging from petty insults to 9/11 to sexual assault. Through character-driven stories, the film shows the role forgiveness can play in alleviating anger and grief and the physical, mental, and spiritual benefits that come with it. Iliana Castillo, Psychology, will lead discussions following the film.

This open enrollment Continuing Education class takes place at 12:30 p.m. in the Cyber Lounge at the Katy Campus.
