Michael Schwartz, Professor of Economic Sociology & Faculty Director of the Undergraduate College of Global Studies at Stony Brook University, has written on popular protest, repression, war, and revolution; on business structure; on the relationships between the political economy and government policy; and on the heritability of intelligence. His scholarly articles have appeared in many leading journals, including The American Sociological Review, Social Problems, and Nature.
He has published five books, including the widely acclaimed Radical Protest and Social Structure, a pioneering work in historical sociology and social movement theory; The Power Structure of American Business (with Beth Mintz), an award winning analysis of American business structure; and Social Policy and the Conservative Agenda (edited, with Clarence Lo), an exploration of the factors that contributed to the resiliency of the conservative turn in American politics during the Clinton years.
His work on Iraq has appeared on the internet at numerous sites, including TomDispatch, ZNet; Asia Times and Mother Jones,, and in many print outlets, including Contexts, Cities, Against the Current, and Z Magazine. His book on the impact of the war on Iraq will be published in the spring of 2008.
